Search Types
The Vintage Baseball Cards from the Collection of Senator Richard B. Russell web site provides two searching methods to allow users to choose the method that best fits their searching needs: 1) basic search and 2) advanced search. Both searching methods allow users to access individual images.
Basic Search: Locating Items
When using the simple search box located in the left navigation bar, you are searching for individual images. The web site's search engine requires that each word that you enter in the search box appear in a record for it to be displayed as part of your search results.
| This search ... | ... would find ... | ... these results. |
| Johnny Evers | records with both words | [View results of sample search] |
| second base | records with both words | [View results of sample search] |
You can also use the boolean operators "or" and "not" in your search strategy. Any time you use "or" or "not" in the search box, the query will be interpreted in this way.
Currently, the search engine does not provide for phrase searching using quotation marks.
To improve your search results, you may wish to use truncation to search for variant forms of a word or browse the indexes to find topical search terms, creators, titles, or institutions represented in the Vintage Baseball Cards from the Collection of Senator Richard B. Russell.
Using the advanced search will also give you more control over your search.
Advanced Search: Locating Items
The Advanced Search allows you to narrow your query by searching multiple areas of the item descriptions at once by using boolean operators and by limiting by date. For more detailed information on using the advanced search, see the Advanced Search help page.
